Movement My Way – My Journey with VR Sports

My difficult relationship with sports

I've never had a simple relationship with sports. It's not because I don't feel like it – quite the opposite, I admire people who are regularly active and feel great afterward. However, it's different for me: when I train intensely, my body usually counterattacks about an hour later – severe migraines, body aches, and circulatory problems set in. It feels as if my body is outright rebelling. My doctors believe an underlying metabolic disorder is a significant factor.

For this reason, many things were simply not feasible for me. Jogging, mountain biking, HIIT workouts – all those activities that are considered the epitome of healthy exercise for many, often lead to complete breakdowns for me the next day. I tried to „get used to it“ numerous times, but the result remained the same: painkillers, rest, and a state where migraine-like tension headaches significantly hinder thinking. I would never allow myself to be in such a state again.

I've tried a few things

Before I turned to VR sports, I also tried some approaches that were presented as supposed „cheats“ for lazy people, such as walking on a treadmill while working or EMS training. While these methods certainly have their advantages and could be helpful for others, I personally lacked the motivation to integrate them permanently into my daily routine. Constantly standing on the treadmill gets on my nerves, and I'm also too lazy to consistently put on the EMS equipment.

How I Discovered VR Sports

The advantages of VR Sports go far beyond pure training adaptation. One of the greatest advantages is the portability of VR headsetThanks to its compact design and easy handling, I can take my training area with me almost anywhere – whether in a hotel room while traveling, in my own living room, or even in a quiet park. This keeps my routine flexible, and I can be active with VR, without being tied to fixed locations or opening hours.

Another advantage is the variety of available programs. The VR sports apps offer an impressively diverse selection of interactive workouts – from boxing and dance exercises to cardio and strength training, as well as special stretching routines. This variety ensures that training never becomes monotonous and gives me the opportunity to try different exercises depending on my current condition and mood. This variety motivates me to stay active regularly and allows me to discover new training methods that perfectly suit my needs.

Furthermore, the financial aspect should not be overlooked: the costs for VR sports are generally moderate compared to the often high membership fees of a gym. With a one-time investment in VR glasses and the associated apps, I can access a wide range of high-quality training content without constantly spending a fortune. This makes the VR Sports to an attractive alternative for everyone looking for cost-effective yet effective training options.

Another personal advantage is the undisturbed atmosphere that VR sports offers me. In the virtual environment, I don't have to worry about how I look or if I'm clumsy. This relieves me of the social pressure that often accompanies traditional gyms and allows me to train confidently and without worry. This freedom to practice without judgment or comparison to others boosts my self-confidence and promotes a positive attitude towards exercise.

Overall, VR sports offer a unique combination of flexibility, variety, cost-effectiveness, and personal comfort – all of which allow me to, to be active with VR and to develop a training routine that is precisely tailored to my needs. The playful approach and numerous interactive elements not only ensure fun and motivation but also make the path to more exercise sustainably attractive and practical.

Conclusion: A massive cost increase for companies

Meta presents MHMS as Progress for Businesses, but in truth, it is a massive Increase in the cost of overall quest management. Companies that previously only paid for hardware and MDM must now pay Meta an additional €179.99 per device per year.

🔹 The cost of quest management has increased by up to 50–100 %.
Companies must Thousands of euros more for their VR fleet.
🔹 If these additional costs do not seem justified, then Alternative headsets (Pico, HTC) worth considering.

For companies that have already invested in Meta Quest, this is a bitter pill to swallow. The most important question remains: Is the cost increase really worth it, or are there better alternatives?

My recommendations for VR sports apps

In addition to the programs mentioned above, I'd like to give a few more tips on VR sports apps that I personally enjoy using:

  • Rumble Boxing: Ideal if you want to specifically release your energy. The structured boxing routines help me stay active even on stressful days.

  • Stretch Labs: Perfect for releasing tension after long hours in front of the screen and gently stretching the body.

  • FitXR: This app offers an impressive variety of workouts – whether it's cardio, dance, or strength training, it stays varied and motivating here.

  • Les Mills BodyCombat: For all those who appreciate the rhythm and energy of group training, this program is an intense and motivating option.

Personal Perspectives on VR Sports

I am not claiming that VR Sports is the perfect solution for everyone. But for someone who regularly has problems with traditional sports – be it for health, mental, or social reasons – it offers a real advantage. It may not seem spectacular, but it is real and helpful: a way to get moving at all again, without my body subsequently demanding its price. In doing so, VR not only allows me to train flexibly, but also to be active with VR, which sustainably enriches my everyday life.
