In collaboration with migrant women and members of social minorities, Design4real developed a VR workshop app to promote empathy for discrimination. The app offers interactive scenarios in which users can experience realistic experiences of discrimination from different perspectives.
The scenarios are designed in such a way that they can affect users emotionally and change their perspective on discrimination. For example, they can experience what it feels like to be discriminated against because of their origin or appearance.
The app is an innovative tool that can help to understand and combat discrimination. It is suitable for educational institutions, companies and other organizations that are committed to non-discriminatory coexistence.
One of the biggest challenges in the fight against discrimination is to raise awareness of the diversity of experiences of discrimination and to break down prejudices. It is difficult to get people to put themselves in the shoes of those affected and understand their perspective. Traditional learning methods often reach their limits in this regard, as they cannot sufficiently convey the emotional component and the direct experience.
"AugenBLICK mal!" offers an innovative solution by combining virtual reality technology with a blended learning methodology. By immersing themselves in real-life discrimination scenarios, participants can have an intense and emotional experience. They can change perspectives, build empathy and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those affected. The app makes it possible to question prejudices and break down discriminatory thought patterns.
For the "AugenblickMal" project, Design4real has developed an innovative social VR space that enables participants to come together and communicate interactively in a virtual environment, regardless of location. This VR room offers a variety of tools and functions that have been specially optimized for workshops and collaborative events.
Diversity moderators can organize the room flexibly by integrating presentations, conducting surveys and playing videos. Participants and moderators can create sticky notes together and use them to share ideas or thoughts directly in the room.
The social VR room not only enables the exchange of content, but also the launch of various scenarios and 360° videos, creating an immersive and versatile experience. The moderators can switch seamlessly between different rooms and thus customize the workshop.
A particular highlight is the cross-location use of the VR room. Participants do not have to be physically in the same place to take part in workshops together and use the application's versatile functions. This flexibility makes the Social VR Room a powerful tool for modern, digital collaboration.
The project has already achieved impressive results. Participants, whether in schools, organizations or companies, report increased sensitivity to discrimination, a reduction in prejudice and increased empathy for those affected. Through the intensive experience of the virtual scenarios, discussions are stimulated, awareness is raised and positive changes in relation to diversity and inclusion are achieved. The flexible and adaptable blended learning methodology offers scope for further development and specific adaptation to different target groups and needs. "AugenBLICK mal!" thus makes a significant contribution to the promotion of equal opportunities and the fight against discrimination.
