Today's VR headsets, such as the Meta Quest 3 or the PICO 4, no longer require a powerful PC as they have integrated processors and graphics chips. They offer an impressive level of mobility and user-friendliness, which makes them particularly interesting for leisure use and occasional applications. However, users who prefer high-end graphics and specific applications will still benefit from PC-bound headsets.
For those who rely on PC-connected headsets, the hardware requirements are much more accessible today. High-quality gaming laptops with modern graphics cards and processors already meet the requirements for VR. Exotic and expensive desktop PCs are no longer absolutely necessary.
Recommended hardware:
Example configuration: A gaming laptop with NVIDIA RTX 3060 and an Intel Core i7 processor is sufficient to operate popular VR headsets such as the Valve Index or HTC Vive.
Many VR headsets and platforms such as SteamVR offer simple tools to check the compatibility of your system. Users can see directly whether their hardware meets the requirements or which components require an upgrade.
