While earlier scanners were primarily used for <strong data-start=\"457\" data-end=\"490\">Classic surveying technology<\/strong> the PortalCam is the first device that is consistently geared towards <strong data-start=\"568\" data-end=\"580\">Creative<\/strong> is aimed at: Filmmakers, photographers, real estate visualizers and anyone who wants to create visually convincing 3D models.<\/p><p data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"965\">Their focus is not on geodetic precision, but on the <strong data-start=\"773\" data-end=\"829\">photorealistic representation of objects and places<\/strong>. While conventional scanners measure hemispherically in all directions - with the disadvantage that objects cannot be \"targeted\" - the PortalCam works like a camera.<\/p><p data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1574\">Together with two front cameras equipped with different optics, the system enables precise focusing on the desired subject. Creatives can thus work with a clear \"viewfinder view\" and obtain a sharp, visually optimized result.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27a3082 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"27a3082\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"1581\" data-end=\"1625\">2. photorealism for Gaussian splatting<\/h3><p data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1802\">The PortalCam delivers data in a quality that is specially designed for <a href=\"https:\/\/design4real.de\/en\/what-is-gaussian-splatting\/\"><strong data-start=\"1690\" data-end=\"1712\">Gaussian splatting<\/strong><\/a> is optimized. Particularly striking is the handling of <strong data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1799\">Glass and reflective surfaces<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"1804\" data-end=\"2181\">In the <strong data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"1830\">Photogrammetry<\/strong> reflections are usually \"baked in\" as a rigid texture. This means that reflections or highlights remain the same regardless of the viewing angle - which looks unnatural. <strong data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2026\">Gaussian splatting<\/strong> on the other hand, reproduces reflections and glass surfaces dynamically and depending on the viewing angle. The result is a much more authentic, realistic display.<\/p><p data-start=\"2183\" data-end=\"2521\">This is where the PortalCam really comes into its own: Thanks to the <strong data-start=\"2241\" data-end=\"2264\">superior optics<\/strong> of the ultra-fisheye cameras, it delivers sharper, higher-contrast raw material than the older models <strong data-start=\"2369\" data-end=\"2375\">K1<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"2381\" data-end=\"2391\">L2 Pro<\/strong>. This means that glass and reflections in the finished model are not only correct, but can also be <strong data-start=\"2475\" data-end=\"2501\">Aesthetically convincing<\/strong> be displayed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-321b4af elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"321b4af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"2528\" data-end=\"2555\">3. easy handling<\/h3><p data-start=\"2556\" data-end=\"2712\">A central goal of PortalCam is to, <strong data-start=\"2597\" data-end=\"2626\">Reduce complexity<\/strong>. Users do not need in-depth knowledge of photogrammetry or Gaussian splatting.<\/p><p data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"3032\">The resulting point cloud is displayed in real time via an app during the scan. Missing areas or areas that have been scanned too thinly can be recognized immediately and rescanned. There, the recorded data can be <strong data-start=\"3182\" data-end=\"3232\">Splat files in different resolutions<\/strong> can be processed. Particularly practical: <strong data-start=\"3274\" data-end=\"3294\">Collider objects<\/strong> are generated automatically - ideal for integration in engines such as Unity or Unreal if you want to add physical interactions or avatars.<\/p><p data-start=\"3456\" data-end=\"3585\">This creates a <strong data-start=\"3473\" data-end=\"3494\">End-to-end solution<\/strong>which significantly shortens the entire process from recording to interactive application.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0da4e33 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"0da4e33\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d9d6e3d elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d9d6e3d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"3592\" data-end=\"3614\">5. price-performance ratio<\/h3><p data-start=\"3615\" data-end=\"3726\">With a price of approx. <strong data-start=\"3639\" data-end=\"3650\">5.000 \u20ac<\/strong> the PortalCam is significantly cheaper than other models in the XGRIDS series:<\/p><ul data-start=\"3728\" data-end=\"3781\"><li data-start=\"3728\" data-end=\"3752\"><p data-start=\"3730\" data-end=\"3752\"><strong data-start=\"3730\" data-end=\"3736\">K1<\/strong>approx. 15.000 \u20ac<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3781\"><p data-start=\"3755\" data-end=\"3781\"><strong data-start=\"3755\" data-end=\"3765\">L2 Pro<\/strong>approx. 32,000 \u20ac<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3783\" data-end=\"4121\">The crucial point: <strong data-start=\"3808\" data-end=\"3896\">The PortalCam is even superior to the older models in terms of visual quality.<\/strong> While K1 and L2 Pro were primarily designed for surveying technology and photorealistic imaging was only a side effect, the PortalCam is built from the ground up <strong data-start=\"4065\" data-end=\"4108\">Visualization and creative applications<\/strong> designed.<\/p><p data-start=\"4123\" data-end=\"4261\">The result: <strong data-start=\"4137\" data-end=\"4208\">Higher image quality, better sharpness and more realistic reflections<\/strong> - and at a fraction of the purchase price.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-664b528 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"664b528\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e4fad4 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4e4fad4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"4268\" data-end=\"4306\">6. points of criticism and open questions<\/h3><p data-start=\"4307\" data-end=\"4393\">As promising as the PortalCam is, some points remain critical:<\/p><ul data-start=\"4395\" data-end=\"4904\"><li data-start=\"4395\" data-end=\"4536\"><p data-start=\"4397\" data-end=\"4536\"><strong data-start=\"4397\" data-end=\"4413\">Battery performance<\/strong>: In the beta version, the runtime was still limited. It is to be expected that XGRIDS will improve this in the final product.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4537\" data-end=\"4739\"><p data-start=\"4539\" data-end=\"4739\"><strong data-start=\"4539\" data-end=\"4562\">Proprietary format<\/strong>The raw data can only be used with XGRIDS software. Additional license costs are incurred for further processing (approx. \u20ac 2,000 per year or \u20ac 5,000 as a perpetual license).<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4740\" data-end=\"4904\"><p data-start=\"4742\" data-end=\"4904\"><strong data-start=\"4742\" data-end=\"4765\">Young infrastructure<\/strong>Gaussian splatting is still a young technology. Functions such as displaying avatars or placing additional polygonal objects increasingly turn it into a small editor.
