Accompanying the two-part television documentary "The Bohemian Forest - a Wilderness in the Middle of Europe", the FFF Bayern awarded funding for a 360° and virtual reality documentary for the first time in the summer.
Hardly anyone can escape the magic of the fairytale Šumava. The Bohemian Forest is the source of the Vltava River, home to primeval forests, untouched high moors and bubbling torrents. This archaic stretch of land, which includes the Bavarian Forest, was long considered impenetrable and mysterious.
In the reportage "Der Wald der lebenden Toten" (The forest of the living dead), shot with state-of-the-art 360-degree camera technology, we accompany the team around biologist Claus Bässler in their research on deadwood.
Trimming trees to produce dead wood: In the Bavarian Forest, biologists are breaking new ground and creating artificial clearings. This is intended to return the forest to its original state and bring back the biodiversity of a primeval forest. Thanks to 360-degree technology, you can look around the forest freely - even from the lofty heights of treetops where the biologists are working.
In the exciting VR-360° reportage, the viewer gets an insight into perhaps one of the most underestimated regions of our continent.
